Holiday-ing in the Maldives- Part 1

We've just returned from our trip to the Maldives and as I sort through the photos sitting here in my sweater drinking hot tea, I cannot help but miss it already. We honestly could not have enjoyed ourselves more. Due to the incredible amount of photos we took, I am going to post a few times on our trip so here's our first few days of island life!

We took the red-eye (10 hour) flight direct from London Gatwick to Male International Airport. M did a super job on the flight and we all caught a few hours of oh-so comfortable airplane shut-eye.

Once in Male, we were greeted by a hotel representative and boarded our seaplane to the island we would spend the next 9 days.

The view from the air was absolutely breathtaking.

We stayed at the Kanuhura hotel (island pictured above) which is on the Lhaviyani atoll, one of the most spectacular atolls in the Maldives. The water was so incredibly gorgeous and as turquoise as you can possibly imagine. We loved our experience at Kanuhura and cannot recommend it enough.

Our beach villa where the ocean was just beyond a brief walk through the sand.

Our view of the Indian Ocean.

Once we arrived M and Davis got swimming quickly as we were surprised how hot and humid it was. We wanted somewhere warm and boy was it ever!

My luggage was delayed with M's swim suits and all of my clothes so I (sadly and rather sweaty) sat and watched from the shore.

We quickly learned to ditch our shoes as walking around on an island made of sand is much easier without them. After our first day, we did not wear shoes for the rest of the trip.

After arriving we powered through the day, no one took a nap and we all headed to bed early. It ended working out in our favor and M adjusted to the 6 hour time difference with no problem at all.

Many of our days were spent lounging on a comfy bed at the beach appropriately positioned between the pool and the ocean water. Back and forth between the two we went.

M loved the ocean! After all it was just like a bath. Tough toddler life.

Besides swimming, the playing in the sand was never-ending.

M wanted to build a sandcastle like the one in her book and so they did.

Each day we would take a break for lunch and then head in for M's nap. Davis ventured out for 3 dives and could do so easily as it was a short boat ride to the dive sites.

Afternoons were for more swimming and snacks.

Our 9 days slowly started and it felt like we would be living the island life forever.

I'll be back soon to share more photos and other adventures from our holiday!

Cheers!
Kelley
