Adventures in Amsterdam- Tulips!

While my mom was visiting in April, the four of us went on a little adventure to Amsterdam. Just an hour flight from London and we absolutely loved it! Amsterdam during the spring is not to miss with all of the tulips and other gorgeous blooming flowers.

Keukenhof is known as the Garden of Europe and is located to the southwest of Amsterdam in the small town of Lisse. Approximately 7 million bulbs are planted each year covering an area that spans 79 acres. It is open mid-March to mid-May with the best time to visit mid-April depending on the weather. The beauty of Keukenhof did not disappoint and we were there just before the bulbs were blooming fully.

The gardens are planned, planted and immaculately manicured with such care. I will now forever compare other gardens to Keukenhof. And I'd imagine, nothing will be able to compare.

It was very chilly the day we went but the sun poked through the clouds just enough to imagine that this place is even more beautiful with the gloriously warm sunshine.

Each year the theme of Keukenhof is different. This year it was Vincent Van Gogh as 2015 marks the 125th anniversary of his death. Van Gogh has always been one of my favorites so I took a selfie with him in the Keukenhof selfie garden.

To see the fields of tulips at Keukenhof we went on a boat ride around the canals and the sun came out to keep us warm on the blustery tour.

I understand now that there are tulip fields about a 1 mile walk away from Keukenhof where you can actually walk through fields. Wish we had known this at the time as I really had my heart set on walking through the fields with M and getting some amazing pictures.

While we did not get those wandering through the tulip field shots, here are a few tourist-cheese shots.

M fell asleep as we were looking for some tulips to take a family photo in.

So our family photo ended up like this- just the two of us.

The food is nothing to write home about so bringing a picnic would be ideal. We did have some yummy Dutch snacks though.

As a souvenir, we grabbed a pair of wooden clogs for M.

I'll be back later in the week to share the rest of our adventures in Amsterdam. Until then, have a great week!
