So here's how it went...
Me: Hello, my husband spoke to someone on the phone yesterday about seeing our daughter since she is still having a fever after several days. We've just moved and are not registered here yet.
Lady: Ok, do you have your passports and proof of address?
Me: Yes, here are our passports and a utility bill for proof of address. Also, here are the forms we were sent yesterday in an email to fill out.
Lady: I'm sorry we don't take those forms.
Me: They were sent to us yesterday from this office to bring in today.
Lady: I'm sorry, you will have to fill out these forms. And this proof of address is not in your name.
Me: Yes, I know. That is my husband. We've just moved here and all of the bills are in his name (My Women's Studies minor self is yelling at me right now).
Lady: I cannot register you unless you have a proof of address in your name and therefore I cannot register your daughter.
Me: Ok well my husband talked with someone yesterday about us coming in. Let me call him and find out who it was so we can get this figured out.
(At this point I was getting just a wee bit frustrated and as a mommy, don't get in the way of me trying to take care of my sick child.)
Davis does not answer. He's on the train heading to work.
While I am trying to get in touch with him (and beginning the new forms), the lady comes back and has me fill out yet another form as they will see us in the ER department. She rattles off appointment times for today and I take the first available- 10:40.
Lovely. See you then.
We head home- just about a 10 minute walk. I fill out the 10ish pieces of paper and head back. I notice the form I filled out from the email is actually the same just a different color and not 2 sided.
Really?!
We arrive for the second time and are sent to the 1st floor to wait and we see a doctor within 10 minutes. He was very nice and M was diagnosed with a virus, told to watch for a rash and it could last up to three weeks.
Head back down to my dear friend at the front desk and I clarify this "registration" process. I get a form for Davis so he can register himself and therefore M this weekend (Happy Father's Day! Here's a form.) I will not be able to register until the next cycle of our Virgin Media bill.
Frustrating. That's what this day was. Then I started to think about how easy things were back home. There has been a lot that has not been easy here but so far I've been okay with it. I quickly went into the closest Starbucks and thank heavens for a little taste of home this afternoon. At least the sun was shining or I could have started with wine a little early today.
